What about Swimming with Disabilities?

Water is a great equalizer. It supports body weight, and with proper flotation devices, most anyone can exercise in the water no matter what the physical disability. Great resources available online include this site that has a guide for swimmers and parents. http://www.pvswim.org/disability.html

There is a really interesting story from this past October about an Eagle Scout – Robert Griswold – who had raised awareness of swimmers with disabilities through his senior Eagle Scout project. He had the help of some Paralympics medalists. This article is a very worthwhile read on the Team USA website.

MyHandicap.com is another great site with inspirational and informative stories like that of Kirsten Bruhn who refused to let a motorcycle accident that left her as a paraplegic destroy her love for swimming and her participation in it on a competitive level.
