A Day In The Life: Jim Towne

Ever wonder who is working behind the computer for Jackrabbit? We promise, we’re real! This series will introduce folks at Jackrabbit and share a little more about our team than you may see on our website.

Hometown – Vienna, VA
Current city – Charlotte, NC
Started at Jackrabbit – March 2011
Job title – Senior Developer

What is the last picture you took with your phone? A photo of my daughter rock climbing this weekend.

Best compliment you have received? When I graduated from Parris Island, my Senior Drill Instructor told my dad that if he had 10 more Marines like me, he could win any war.

What do you feel most proud of? Raising strong, independent, adventurous, loving children.

What is your best childhood memory? My family used to have a cottage in New Hampshire and in the summer we would take my best friend and go for 2-3 weeks. He and I would swim, paddle, hike and climb the entire time. It was in the middle of nowhere and was always a lot of fun.

What is your favorite music? It depends on what I’m doing and my mood but I listen to alternative, hard rock and electronica.

If you could only keep 5 possessions, what would they be? Nothing really comes to mind – I don’t collect possessions I collect experiences.

Why did you choose this profession? Information Technology is my second career. I could tell, in the mid-90’s that it was the future so I quit law enforcement and went back to school for programming. I like solving problems, using logic and technology.

What’s your strongest personal quality? My sense of humor. I like to hear people laugh.

A little more about Jim…

Jim has been developing software since 1998 and has worked on applications for manufacturing, service, insurance, biotech and health care companies. As a Microsoft Certified Professional he is always trying to stay on top of the latest tools, technologies and industry standards. Jim lives for being challenged every day and the feeling of satisfaction that comes when a customer says they are happy. He enjoys building solutions that make people’s lives easier. After high school Jim joined the United States Marine Corps Reserves and while serving at Andrews AFB outside of Washington DC he joined the Metropolitan Police Dept. where he worked for 6 years before deciding to go back to school for his AAS degree in Computer Programming. He enjoys spending time with his wife and kids and taking the occasional trip to the beaches in the Carolinas.
